Information on how to use WebDAV
What is WebDAV?
WebDAV means «Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning» . It contains a number of extensions regarding the HTTP protocol enabling the user to edit and administer files from an external server.
Why should I use WebDAV?
The advantage of WebDAV is the fact that you can copy single files or entire directories from your local disc to the server via drag and drop (e.g. using Windows File-Explorer) before administering them there. Without WebDAV you can only achieve this by means of online forms, uploading either each file separately or zipping several files first.
How can I use WebDAV?
Microsoft Windows XP and Mac OS X usually support WebDAV. In the meantime various other programs (e.g. Macromedia Dreamweaver, Adobe Golive, and InDesign) offer WebDAV features.
In order to get to a folder in OLAT via WebDAV you will need:
- Address (URL) of the server resource: use the URL shown below the OLAT folder that is WebDAV compatible.
- User name: use your OLAT user name (the one indicated on the left bottom of the screen after login).
- Password: use your OLAT/WebDAV password. You can change your password via Home -> Settings -> Password .
If you log in to OLAT via your university and do not have an OLAT/WebDAV password you will have to ask for one. Please contact the support team of your OLAT management.
- coursefolders: All courses the storage folders of which you get access to. This only concerns users with course editor rights (usually course authors). All other users will see an empty directory.
- groupfolders: Groups of the type Project group, Learning group and Right group you have subscribed to as well as have access to their folders.
- home: Your two personal folders (private and public)
- resourcefolders: All learning resources of the type Resource folder you own. Usually, this only concerns OLAT authors. All other users will see an empty directory.
